Diane Keaton's family has recently revealed the cause of her death. For those unversed, the actress passed away in California on Saturday, October 11, at the age of 79. According to People Magazine, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to Keaton's house at 8:08 a.m. and transported her to a local hospital. However, the cause of her death wasn't revealed immediately but was later confirmed by her family in a statement to the outlet on October 15.
"There are no further details available at this time, and her family has asked for privacy in this moment of great sadness," a spokesperson said at the time.
Diane Keaton passed away from pneumonia on October 11, said her family.
"The Keaton family are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on October 11. She loved her animals and she was steadfast in her support of the unhoused community, so any donations in her memory to a local food bank or an animal shelter would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute to her," the statement reads.
Meanwhile, a source told the outlet that Keaton's death "was so unexpected, especially for someone with such strength and spirit." The source also claimed that her health "declined very suddenly, which was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her."
"In her final months, she was surrounded only by her closest family, who chose to keep things very private. Even longtime friends weren’t fully aware of what was happening," the source added.
Thank you, Diane Keaton, for the movies, the laughter, the life you brought to every frame.

Diane Keaton never married; however, she has reportedly been involved in several high-profile relationships over the years. She also adopted two children, her daughter, Dexter, in 1996, and her son, Duke, in 2001.
In a 2019 interview with People Magazine, she said she was "glad" she never married.
"Today I was thinking, I'm the only one in my generation of actresses who has been a single woman all her life. I'm really glad I didn't get married. I'm an oddball. I remember in high school, this guy came up to me and said, 'One day you're going to make a good wife.' And I thought, 'I don't want to be a wife. No,'" said Keaton.
Diane reportedly dated Woody Allen, Al Pacino, and Warren Beatty, per the outlet, and was even rumored to be dating her Something's Gotta Give co-star Keanu Reeves.

However, neither party confirmed the speculation.

The John Wick star also recalled that it was "cool" to see Jack Nicholson and her together in Something's Gotta Give.
"It was cool to be able to see her and Jack Nicholson together. Just with the history they shared and the way the fondness and love they had for each other. It's really cool," Reeves said.
