(This page will be updated as nominations are announced.)
Television takes center stage today as Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and J.B. Smoove (Curb Your Enthusiasm) announce the nominees for the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards. Like last year, the 2022 Emmy nominations will take place virtually, and the announcement will stream live online on the official Emmys website.
After a strong year in television, the 2022 Emmy nominees are expected to be dominated by just a handful of shows. On the drama side, Succession will likely dominate, but newcomers Squid Game and Yellowjackets are expected to nab nominations, as well. Netflix juggernaut Stranger Things will also be eligible for the first half of its fourth season, which dropped in the final days of the eligibility period.
The comedy categories largely remain a three-horse race between Ted Lasso, HBO Max’s Hacks, and Abbott Elementary. After making history at last year’s Emmy Awards, Ted Lasso seems to have lost some steam in its sophomore outing, creating an opportunity for a potential upset.
But the most exciting race takes place in the Limited Series categories. Recently, HBO and Netflix have dominated their prestige limited series counterparts, but this year, Hulu is poised to earn multiple nominations for The Dropout and Dopesick, and Pam and Tommy and The Girl From Plainville are strong contenders, as well. Could 2022 be the Year of Hulu, or will HBO’s The White Lotus dash its hopes at Emmys glory?
The 74th Emmy Awards air Monday, September 12 on NBC and Peacock.
