Never accuse Faith Hill of phoning it in. In an interview with Courteney Cox for Variety's Actors on Actors series, Hill reveals she had to grow out her armpit hair to get into character for Paramount+'s Yellowstone prequel 1883. After the "gross" experience, Hill vowed she would do everything in her power to "never have to do that again," even if it means lasering off all her armpit hair.
During their wide-ranging interview, Cox asked whether it was true that "people had to grow hair under their arms" on 1883 "to be authentic" to the time period.
"That was really difficult, and [creator Taylor Sheridan] actually called my husband," recalled Hill."We were at a wedding, our nephew's wedding, and he said, 'Who's gonna be the one to tell your wife that she has to stop shaving under her arms?' And I'm thinking, we're at a wedding, can this wait? He goes, 'No, stop tonight.'"
Hill attempted to protest Sheridan's request by noting that many male cast members wore fake beards, but she was overruled. As a result, the singer and actress began growing out her underarm hair "a few months" before filming began, an admission that prompted a look of horror from Cox.
"I've lasered, so I wouldn't be able to," said Cox.
"I don't laser, but I may now so I never have to do that again," replied Hill. "It really grossed me out, I have to say."
Despite her own feelings about underarm hair, Hill has no problem with other women growing theirs out. "All due respect to those who love that, and all that freedom, woo!" said the 1883 star. "But for me, personally, I just don't like it."
