A video shot by American right-wing political activist Charlie Kirk's Turning Point USA members showed a student at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, saying he's "glad Charlie Kirk got shot."
According to Frontlines TPUSA, the unnamed student approached the Turning Point USA members while they were running their booth on Hamline University's campus.
"Why shouldn't I be glad that [Charlie Kirk] got shot? Like honestly?" asked the student.

This statement is indefensible and this student is dangerous.
Anyone know who he is? Hamline University needs to be alerted. This student needs to be expelled and banned from campus. pic.twitter.com/jPqx9vKFYC
The student adds that he supports "the Second Amendment" and claims he is "glad Charlie Kirk got shot because he said some really stupid s**t."
When asked if he had ever said "stupid sh**" and whether he should be "shot for it," the student responded:
"No, well, because I didn’t call for — I didn't say that gun violence is necessary."
He further argued that Kirk's shooting is justified, claiming that "he got what he preached. He said that violence is necessary. He said that empathy is a weakness. Why should I be empathetic to that?"
Kirk was fatally shot on September 10, 2025, during a campus event at Utah Valley University. He is survived by his wife Erika and two children.
"The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us," US President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social at the time.
Furthermore, in the altercation between the Hamline University student and the TPUSA members, the unnamed student claimed that he "clapped" when he watched the disturbing video of Charlie Kirk getting shot.
"He got shot because he called for it. He said bring it on. I watched the video of him getting shot in the neck and I clapped," he continued.
In response, a Turning Point member said:
"That’s so sad."
The student added:
"I don’t think it is yet. I think bad people deserve to die."
The clip sparked mixed responses, though most social media users condemned the student's remarks about the TPUSA founder,
"Disgusting! I wonder if he ever stopped and actually listened to any of Charlie's videos or if he just believes what he hears or watches from edited clips," wrote one user.
"College is supposed to be a place for debate, not this kind of hate-filled nonsense," another user said.
"When celebrating violence becomes ‘activism,’ we’ve officially lost the plot. Disagreement isn’t a license for cruelty," another user commented.
"That's a nasty bit of cruelty, love. Celebrating violence won't solve a thing—time to grow up and have a proper debate, not a daft round of applause for tragedy," another user mentioned.
Charlie Kirk was married to Miss Arizona USA Erika Kirk from May 2021 until his death. The couple welcomed their daughter in August 2022, followed by their son in May 2024.
