After a one-year time out, the Golden Globe Awards will return to NBC in 2023.
The 80th annual ceremonies will air on NBC and Peacock on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, ditching the Globes' Sunday tradition. The new deal for NBC and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is only a one-year deal, a dramatic change from the long-term contract that had originally been set to last until 2026 (and cost NBC some $60 million annually).
The HFPA found itself in hot water in 2021 over the lack of racial diversity in its membership, and NBC dropped the 2022 broadcast as a result. (It was also revealed that the HFPA had zero Black members). The HFPA has since made efforts to implement diversity initiatives, reportedly adding 103 new voters to its ranks and making the total voting body 52% female, 51.5% racially and ethnically diverse, with 19.5% Latinx, 12% Asian, 10% Black and 10% Middle Eastern.
Nominations for the 2023 Golden Globes will be announced December 12.
