HBO Max Cancels Minx, Reversing Season 2 Renewal

Minx will no longer get a second season - at least not on HBO Max. 

With production on Season 2 nearly finished, the streamer has reversed its decision to give the Jake Johnson-Ophelia Lovibond starring comedy another installment. Minx was renewed in May just after the conclusion of its first season. 

"We have enjoyed a good partnership with HBO Max and are working closely to find a new opportunity for Minx, so current, and new viewers, can continue this journey with us," Lionsgate TV said in a statement.

Helmed by creator and showrunner Ellen Rapoport, Minx is set in 1970s Los Angeles and tells the story of Joyce (Lovibond), a plucky feminist who forms an unlikely partnership with porn publisher Doug (Johnson) to create the first erotic magazine geared towards women. The series also stars Idara Victor, Jessica Lowe, Lennon Parham, Michael Angarano, and Oscar Montoya, and Elizabeth Perkins had joined the second season in a recurring role. 

The cancellation marks another in a series of cost-cutting decisions made by Warner Bros. Discovery in the last year, including cutting Chad, feature film Batgirl, Batman: Caped Crusader, The Last O.G., and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, to name a few. 

Minx Season 1 will be removed from HBO Max as Lionsgate TV plans to shop both seasons around to other streamers.
