Sarah Marsh, an eight-year-old from Mountain Brook, Alabama, was one of the victims of recent flash floods in Texas. According to The Kerrville Daily Times, her grandmother, Debbie, confirmed the news of the young girl’s passing in a now-private Facebook post. She shared (via The Kerrville Daily Times):
“Thank you for the outpouring of love and sympathy! We will always feel blessed to have had this beautiful spunky ray of light in our lives. She will live on in our hearts forever! We love you so much sweet Sarah!”
The US senator for Alabama, Katie Boyd Britt, also shared her condolences with Sarah Marsh’s family. The GOP lawmaker wrote in a Facebook post,
“Wesley and I are heartbroken over the loss of Sarah Marsh, and we are keeping her family in our thoughts and prayers during this unimaginable time. We continue to pray for the victims’ loved ones, the survivors, those who are still missing, and our brave first responders as search and rescue efforts continue in Texas.”
Many prayed for the little girl and her family under Senator Katie Britt’s post. A user (Theresa Bishop Williams) wrote:

The Alabama-based meteorologist for ABC 33/40, James Spann (@Spann), took to his X account to share about the young girl, who recently lost her life. He revealed that Sarah was a student at Cherokee Bend Elementary and shared his condolences. Spann also shared a statement from Marsh’s family that read:
“Our family is completely devastated by the loss of Sarah and her dear friends at Camp Mystic. This is a tragedy that no parent can prepare for and it will never be right this side of Heaven.”
It continues:
“While we are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of love and support we have received, we request privacy as we navigate the unimaginable steps ahead. We continue to keep the fellow campers, staff, and families in our prayers - for their rescue and return home. The Marsh Family”
Many X users also paid tribute to Sarah Marsh and prayed for the family.

For those unaware, Sarah Marsh was at the historical Christian summer camp, namely Camp Mystic, amidst the floods in Kerr County. According to the National Weather Service, the water in the neighboring Guadalupe River surged to its “second highest height on record” during the early hours of Friday, July 4, 2025, the City of Kerrville confirmed. Furthermore, the city reported that the river "rose from 7 feet at midnight last night to over 29 feet" at 4:00 am on Friday.
Per the AP, at least 27 girls were reported missing initially. According to CNN, Sarah was among four girls who were confirmed to be dead, with others being Renee Smajjstrla, Janie Hunt, and Lila Bonner. Texas Public Radio also reported the death of Camp Mystic’s director, Dick Eastland. According to the New York Post, he died saving children during the floods.
