A new HBO limited series is in the works with Barry star Henry Winkler and his son, screenwriter and director Max Winkler, at the helm. As first reported by Deadline, King Rex will be a true crime series based on a Texas Monthly article by Lawrence Wright.

Originally published in November 1980, the article titled Rex Cauble and the Cowboy Mafia details the story of Rex Cauble, a Texas businessman who gets involved in marijuana smuggling and becomes a real gangster. Henry Winkler will star as Cauble in a role that's far removed from his best-known characters Gene Cousineau in Barry and Fonzie in Happy Days.

Max Winkler, known for directing projects like Jungleland and Cruel Summer will reportedly direct the pilot and both Winklers will executive produce. The project marks the first time the father and son duo have worked together professionally.
