HBO has released the first official trailer for House of the Dragon, the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series. With the trailer comes the return of dragons and battle as we learn the story of House Targaryen.
Based on George R.R. Martin's book "Fire & Blood," House of the Dragon takes place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones. The year may be different, but little has changed: just like in the original series, the leaders of Westeros are obsessed with who will take over the Iron Throne.
House of the Dragon centers on the Dance of the Dragons, the Targaryen civil war between siblings Aegon II (Tom Glynn-Carney) and Rhaenyra (Emma D'Arcy), who fought against each other to claim the throne after the death of their father. In the trailer, those closest to power express doubts that a woman can take over the Iron Throne, prompting Rhaenyra to prove them wrong.
The 10-episode series also stars Paddy Considine, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, and Steve Toussaint, among other ensemble players.
House of the Dragon premieres Sunday, August 21 on HBO and HBO Max.
