Amid the nationwide “No Kings” protests on Saturday, October 18, Donald Trump gave a controversial response by posting an AI-generated video on Truth Social. The 19-second clip featured Kenny Loggins’ hit single, Danger Zone, from Top Gun.

Trump’s post received criticism from the award-winning singer-songwriter, while an unverified claim suggests the escalation of a legal feud. @LePapillonBlu2, an X user with more than 212,000 followers on the platform, shared a link to an article about Kenny Loggins’ $500 million lawsuit against the US President.

The user seemingly appreciated the musician based on the claim of a legal action against Trump:

“Kenny Loggins took Legal action against Donald Trump, demanding $500 million in copyright lawsuit after his song ‘Danger Zone’ was used without permission in an AI video mocking anti-Trump demonstrators during the No Kings Day March! 👏🏼”

While the tweet went viral on X and garnered hundreds of replies, the user’s claim is untrue. Loggins officially objected to Trump's use of Danger Zone, but no evidence supports the report that the singer filed a $500 million lawsuit. Furthermore, USAmidia, the website cited by @LePapillonBlu2, has published multiple articles with clickbait titles and false stories.

Kenny Loggins disapproves of Trump using his song Danger Zone in a video attacking No Kings protesters

In an AI-generated clip shared by the US President on Saturday, October 18, he depicted himself as a fighter jet pilot. The plane, with the King Trump label, takes off and drops a load of brown sludge over the No Kings protesters. As mentioned earlier, the video features Top Gun’s famous track, Danger Zone.

While the controversial clip divided people on the opposite ends of the political spectrum, it also prompted Loggins to criticize Trump. The Academy Award-nominated singer-songwriter said in a statement shared with NPR and Variety:

“This is an unauthorized use of my performance of 'Danger Zone.' Nobody asked me for my permission, which I would have denied, and I request that my recording on this video is removed immediately.”

Apart from demanding the removal of his recording, Loggins chastised the 19-second clip:

“I can’t imagine why anybody would want their music used or associated with something created with the sole purpose of dividing us. Too many people are trying to tear us apart, and we need to find new ways to come together.”

    Loggins remarked:

“We're all Americans, and we're all patriotic. There is no 'us and them' – that's not who we are, nor is it what we should be. It's all of us. We're in this together, and it is my hope that we can embrace music as a way of celebrating and uniting each and every one of us.”

After objecting to Trump’s use of his song, Kenny Loggins has joined the list of musicians who have criticized the President for using their recordings without permission. Some notable musical artists/acts include Adele, Beyoncé, the Rolling Stones, Guns N’ Roses, Isaac Hayes, Rihanna, and many more.
