Jake Tapper to Take Over Chris Cuomo's CNN Slot

Jake Tapper is taking over CNN's coveted 9 p.m. hour. 

The network announced this morning that the anchor would move to primetime starting October 10 and lasting until November 11, after the midterm elections. "The world has come to rely on Jake’s no-nonsense approach to covering the news, especially during high-stakes election cycles," said CNN chief executive Chris Licht. 

The slot has been awaiting a new host since former anchor Chris Cuomo was fired from CNN in December following revelations that he had aided his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, in navigating sexual harassment allegations made against him.

Licht also said that Tapper's new spot would highlight his "tough reporting, smart analysis and consequential interviews as our audiences navigate the myriad of issues at stake in the midterms."

In addition to Tapper's move, there have been several other programming changes at the network; Alisyn Camerota and Laura Coates will anchor the 10 p.m. to midnight slot through the midterms, replacing Don Lemon, who will now host CNN's morning show.

John Berman and Brianna Keiler, hosts of New Day, will fill Tapper's former 4 p.m. slot.
