According to Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey, The Office would have gone on for two more seasons, if not for the cast's objections.

The duo recall in their new book, "The Office BFFs: Tales of The Office From Two Best Friends Who Were There," that as production was underway on Season 9, producer Greg Daniels told the cast that NBC had offered to extend the hit comedy for two more seasons. At that point, many of the cast members' contracts were up, and a handful of writers and actors has already left for other projects, including Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak, so Daniels asked the remaining cast how they felt about carrying on with the series.

"I obviously can't speak for Greg, but I know… [there] was a very thoughtful decision of, 'Well, what is the show without possibly the core cast?'" Kinsey told Entertainment Weekly. Fischer added, "I think it really points to the collaborative bond and trust that we all had as a creative collective, that Greg even made us a part of this conversation the way he did. And that we had the kind of trust between us that we could all talk about this really openly and come to a decision that we all felt really good about and were excited about."

Ultimately, the remaining actors decided that the show wouldn't be the same without the core cast.

"I mean, the idea of slowly kind of losing people, it just felt like, I don't know. It just felt sad and wrong," said Fischer.

"It felt wrong. It felt wrong and like it would just ruin the [Office] world to slowly make up excuses of why people are leaving," added Kinsey. "One of the things I loved and we all got excited about was being able to know what the end was."

All episodes of The Office are currently streaming on Peacock. Fischer and Kinsey's forthcoming book, "The Office BFFs: Tales of The Office From Two Best Friends Who Were There," hits bookshelves on May 17.
