Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams thought Arya Stark was queer until the drama's final season, when the character has sex with a man, she revealed in a Teen Vogue video interview.
"The first time that I was surprised by Arya, I guess, was probably in the final series where she whips off her clothes and sleeps with Gendry," Williams said. "I thought that Arya was queer, you know?"
In fact, in 2019, Williams told Entertainment Weekly that she thought creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss were pranking her when she first read the script in which Arya and Gendry (Joe Dempsie) have sex. The showrunners sent the cast fake scripts in the past to prevent spoilers, so Williams assumed this was just another fake.
"I was like, 'Yo, good one,'" she said at the time. "And [the showrunners were] like, 'No, we haven't done that this year.' Oh f*ck!"
All seasons of Game of Thrones are currently streaming on HBO Max.
