NBC Sets Documentary About TikTok's Impact on Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard Trial

The documentary examines how the infamous case evolved into "the TikTok trial."
  • NBC News is launching a new documentary about social media's impact on the perception of the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial. The film, titled A Marriage on Trial: Johnny Depp, Amber Heard, and Truth in the Age of Social Media, premieres tonight on NBC News NOW, the network's streaming news channel.

A Marriage on Trial explores why the trial took over social media, specifically TikTok, and what viewers missed if they relied solely on social media for news. The documentary will examine "how the trial evolved into 'the TikTok trial' and what the verdict means for future domestic abuse cases," NBC said in a statement.

The documentary features interviews with insiders and experts on the trial, including Heard's attorney Elaine Bredehoft, National Coalition Against Domestic Violence CEO Ruth Glenn, American University Law Professor and gendered violence expert Jamie Abrams, NBC News senior breaking news reporter Doha Madani, NBC News tech and culture reporter Kat Tenbarge, and People Magazine's Nigel Smith.

A Marriage on Trial: Johnny Depp, Amber Heard, and Truth in the Age of Social Media airs tonight, July 13 at 10:30 PM ET on NBC News NOW. The documentary will also be available to stream today on NBCNews.com and on Peacock beginning August 1.
