Neil Patrick Harris Joins Doctor Who In Mystery Role

Neil Patrick Harris has joined the cast of Doctor Who, but who exactly the Emmy and Tony-winning actor will play remains a mystery. According to the BBC, Harris is currently filming scenes that will air in 2023 as part of the show's 60th anniversary.

Series showrunner Russell T Davies said in a statement, "It's my huge honour to open our studio doors for the mighty Neil Patrick Harris." It's rare for the British show to welcome American actors, but Davies and Harris have previously worked together on the HBO series It's a Sin. On his Instagram, Davies called Harris' character "the greatest enemy the Doctor has ever faced."

As to what villian Harris will be in the iconic sci-fi series? Davies is keeping it under wraps, saying, "Who, why, what is he playing? You'll just have to wait. But I promise you, the stuff we're shooting now is off the scale. Doctor beware!"

The BBC revealed an image of Harris in his costume for the role, giving fans some subtle clues as to what to expect. Complete with gray hair, pince-nez eyeglasses, an apron with various tools, and a distinctive scowl, it looks as if Harris is having fun embodying a villain. Fans of Doctor Who will have to wait to find out more about this ominous character.
