Nothing is guaranteed on streaming anymore, and at least two British comedies will become much harder to find once they disappear from Netflix in April. Cuckoo Seasons 1 through 5 leaves on April 18 and The IT Crowd Seasons 1 through 5 leaves on April 25, with no other streaming services confirmed to pick either up as of yet. But luckily, both are quick watches that can (and should) easily be binged before they’re gone, and there are other noteworthy series coming to Netflix in their absence.
Cuckoo starts out as a sitcom about Brits Ken (Greg Davies) and Lorna (Helen Baxendale) coming to terms with their new drug-obsessed, American hippie son-in-law Dale (Andy Samberg), who goes by “Cuckoo.” The first season is an odd-couple story between Ken and Dale as they try to find common ground; Seasons 2 through 4 focus on Dale’s secret son, Dale Jr. (Taylor Lautner), fitting in with the family; and in Season 5, Ken’s long-lost sister Ivy (Andie MacDowell) shows up as the odd one out. It’s a charming family comedy that’s tinged with bizarre and outrageous moments, the precedent of which are set by Samberg’s eccentric and chaotic energy in Season 1.
The IT Crowd is a multi-cam workplace comedy where many now well-known creatives got their start. Richard Ayoade and Chris O’Dowd star as Moss and Roy, two underappreciated IT guys who learn to come out of their shells thanks to their tech-illiterate department head, Jen (Katherine Parkinson). Noel Fielding plays Richmond, the goth IT tech who may or may not live in the computer closet, and Matt Berry, at his most pompous, plays Douglas Reyholm, the head of the company.
Earlier in March, Netflix’s in-app warning that New Girl is leaving the platform on April 9 caused panic among the show’s fans mourning “the end of an era.” But we will only be living in a New Girl-less world for about a week. The comedy starring Zooey Deschanel, Hannah Simone, Jake Johnson, Lamorne Morris, and Max Greenfield will be available to stream on Hulu and Peacock starting on April 17.
And there are plenty of compelling new seasons and series coming to Netflix this month. The final season of AMC’s Better Call Saul will be available starting April 18, and Season 2 of The CW’s All American: Homecoming will be available starting April 11.
Highlights from Netflix’s original programming premiering in April include Beef, the road rage drama starring Ali Wong and Steven Yeun (April 6); Florida Man, a comedy about a disgraced cop (Édgar Ramírez) returning to his home state in search of treasure (April 13); The Diplomat, starring Keri Russell as a political ambassador juggling her job and her turbulent marriage (April 20); plus new comedy specials from Mo’Nique (April 4) and John Mulaney (April 25).
