Nicolas Winding Refn's Copenhagen Cowboy cuts an imposing figure in new trailer

If revenge is a dish best served cold, then it's no wonder why Netflix would release Copenhagen Cowboy, Nicolas Winding Refn's latest cinematic quest for vengeance, smack dab in the middle of winter.

The new six-episode series stars Danish actor Angela Bundalovic (also of Netflix's The Rain) as Miu, who moves through the first trailer like a diminutive John Wick. As the propulsive score plays, Miu encounters all kinds of uber-stylish members of the Copenhagen underworld, who either wonder if she's a "ghost" or despair of this "girl" who may be a "real devil." Triangle of Sadness's Zlatko Buric, who starred in Refn's Pusher trilogy, offers some clues as to Miu's enigmatic backstory: "I don't know what you are, or what you're capable of. But people around you die, or they get new life from you."

Copenhagen Cowboy, which premiered at the Venice Film Festival earlier this year, sees Refn "returning to my past to shape my future by creating a series, an expansion of my constantly evolving alter-egos, now in the form of my young heroine, Miu.” This is the Drive and Neon Demon director's second TV outing; he previously created, directed, and co-wrote the Prime Video crime drama Too Old to Die Young, which starred Miles Teller and Augusto Aguilera. Per Deadline, it's also the first production Refn's worked on in 15 years in his native Denmark. 

Copenhagen Cowboy premieres January 5 on Netflix.
