Party Down Sticks to Its Roots in New Season 3 Trailer

The long-awaited return of Party Down is upon us. On February 24, the comedy will be back on Starz after a 13-year hiatus, but what exactly brings these characters together after all this time has been unclear. Well, a new trailer shows us that not much has changed, and almost everyone is donning that iconic pink bowtie once again. 

Ron (Ken Marino) snaps right back into action, and before long has the same haircut as when we first met him in 2009, but this time with some "silver for gravitas." Henry (Adam Scott), Roman (Martin Starr), Kyle (Ryan Hansen), and Constance (Jane Lynch) are all back in uniform and more dissatisfied than ever with newcomers Zoë Chao and Tyrel Jackson Williams slingin' hor d'oeuvres right alongside them. Lydia (Megan Mullally) seems to be the only one of the original crew who made it out of the biz, but, thank goodness, is still very present in the series.

Leaving the main cast in the service industry trenches allows the show to do what it does best: ground each episode in a unwavering pessism while rotating in as many varying backdrops and hilarious guest stars as possible. Jennifer Garner, Nick Offerman, Quinta Brunson, Judy Reyes, and James Marsden all show up in this glimpse at the series, and several more additions have already been announced. If past seasons are any indication, there will likely be a few surprise cameos throughout the six-episode run. 

Lizzy Caplan is notably absent as the only original cast member not returning, but that feels in line with the original, too. Casey was always the most desperate the find a way out and in many ways the most hopeful — to see her back slinging sliders with this crew would almost be depressing, whereas Henry's only deepening depression and ambivilance feels right on track. It gives the show an opportunity to dig even deeper into the nihilitic humor that made it a cult classic in the first place.
