Rainn Wilson Recently Found the Script For Lost 'Pet Day' Episode of The Office

It's been the stuff of legend for some time now, but Rainn Wilson says he recently discovered a copy of the script for an episode of The Office that was never produced.

In an interview with People, Wilson, who played Dwight Schrute, revealed that he found the unreleased episode of The Office in his desk drawer. "This is an absolutely true story," Wilson said. "Recently, I uncovered a lost Office episode — not making this up — called 'Pet Day.'"

In the episode, the Dunder Mifflin staff celebrate Take Your Pet to Work Day by bringing in their various animals to the Scranton office. "I think Angela brings in cats, obviously," Wilson revealed. "But everyone brings their pet to work, and Dwight brings in his hybrid wolf."

As much as fans of The Office fans would love to see the episode, Wilson explained that it was never filmed and only exists on paper. "We did a table read of it early on, I think in the first season," he said. "But it didn't make the cut. It's not disseminated. No one has it."

In an excerpt from Andy Green's book, "The Office: The Untold Story of the Greatest Sitcom of the 2000s," Justin Spitzer, a writer and producer for the show, revealed that the "Pet Day" episode was one that the production kept in its back pocket in case the writers got "into trouble."

"We always would talk about it as our 'break the glass episode' that we'd do if we ever were totally in trouble," Spitzer said. "It was funny. I think Michael had a parrot named Jim Carrey."

Unfortunately, the episode would never come to be, because, according to Spitzer, "There was a moment at some point in the run where we realized, 'Okay, the characters and their situations have changed so much now that we can never, ever do 'Pet Day.' The show has changed too much now.' It wouldn't play."
