Mondelēz Global LLC has recalled some Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches. This comes after a packaging error that may put people with peanut allergies at risk. The company worked with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to take this step. The recall covers four specific box sizes sold across the country. The company's notice says the outer packaging on the affected products has the right labels. It also includes the needed allergy warning. But some boxes have a problem.

The sandwiches wrapped inside have labels saying they're cheese-flavored. In reality, these contain peanut butter. This wrong label could cause people with peanut allergies to eat peanuts by accident. This presents a health danger to these consumers. The recall affects several Ritz cracker products. These include eight-pack, 20-pack, and 40-pack boxes of Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches. It also covers the 20-pack Ritz Filled Cracker Sandwich Variety Pack.

The recall applies to items with specific "Best When Used By" dates and plant codes. You can find a full list of these on the FDA's website. Mondelēz Global LLC pointed out that a supplier-related flaw in the film rolls for individual packaging caused the problem. The company said it's taking steps to fix this. They aim to stop similar labeling mistakes from happening again.

"People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts may risk serious or life-threatening allergic reactions by consuming this product," Mondolez Global LLC said in its recall statement released through the FDA. "All outer cartons affected are labeled correctly and provide an allergen advisory statement indicating that the product “contains peanuts."

"The recall was initiated after Mondelez Global LLC discovered that film packaging rolls used to package individually wrapped products containing peanut butter may contain defects due to a supplier error," the company's FDA alert explained. "Corrective actions are being taken to help ensure this issue does not recur."

The recall does not impact other Ritz products or any items produced by Mondelēz Global LLC outside the listed cartons and codes. Cartons that solely contain Ritz Cheese Cracker Sandwiches, or those with different manufacturing codes and expiration dates, remain unaffected.

At the time of the announcement, there were no confirmed reports of adverse health reactions connected to the mislabeling. The company emphasized that the decision to recall was taken as a preventive measure.

Consumers in possession of the affected products are advised to consult the FDA’s detailed list to verify whether their purchase is included in the recall. Those with peanut allergies are urged to exercise caution and avoid consumption of the mislabeled items.
