Sister Wives Star Comes Out as Trans: 'My Name is Leo or Leon'

When Sister Wives premiered on TLC in 2010, viewers were fascinated with the Brown family's unconventional, religious, and polygamous lifestyle. In the decade-plus since, the family has gone through many significant changes, including several of the Brown children breaking away from their strict upbringing.

One of the most memorable moments came in 2017, when Kody and Meri's only child came out as gay. Five years later, the Sister Wives star is coming out as trans.

On Tuesday, Leon Brown posted an Instagram photo with an caption reading, "Someone recently told me that I didn’t have to have all of my sh*t figured out in order for me to share myself with the world. So here’s me, definitely not having almost any of my sh*t figured out, to let you know that I am trans. My name is Leon or Leo (I love both) and my pronouns are they/them."

"I remember the first time that I knew I wasn't a girl. I was pretty young & unfortunately I grew up in a context that was incredibly gendered & restrictive. So I continued to be socialized as a girl & later a woman," wrote Brown. "I’m finally ready to share my favorite self with the world. And that self is incredibly genderqueer, trans, and unapologetic."

Brown went on to call being "queer & trans" their "favorite parts" of themself, adding, "Here’s to me getting to know myself, share myself, and continually evolve to be the person I am, to be my favorite self in all context."

Leon's mom, Meri Brown, shared the photo on her Instagram story with the caption, "You are my sunshine." Other members of the family, including Ysabel, Logan, and Aspyn, shared similar sentiments of support and love.
