Sadie Sink has received widespread acclaim for her performance in Stranger Things, but in an interview with Fashion Magazine published Thursday, the 20-year-old actor reveals she almost wasn't cast in the series for being too "old."
Sink explained casting directors were hesitant about her age, even though she was only 14 at the time — the same age as one of her co-stars, Caleb McLaughlin, and only one year older than Gaten Matarazzo and Finn Wolfhard.
"I just begged and pleaded with them to give me more material so I could show them something fresh," Sink said, adding that the part of Max Mayfield felt "right" to her.
Finally, producers gave in and called her in for a chemistry read with Matarazzo and McLaughlin. The next day, she found out she got the part.
It certainly seems that Sink's casting was the right decision, as Max has quickly become one of the most beloved characters on the series.
Stranger Things is currently streaming on Netflix.
