Sydney Sweeney's Emmy-nominated performances in HBO's Euphoria and The White Lotus have launched the actress into a new chapter of her career, but that doesn't come without some assumptions, particularly when it comes to nude scenes.
According to Sweeney, it can be difficult to overcome the audience's expectations of her once they've seen her characters naked on screen, but that "won't stop" her from appearing nude in projects that warrant it.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sweeney discussed her many nude scenes in Euphoria, saying, "People forget that I'm playing a character. They think, 'Oh, she gets naked onscreen, she's a sex symbol.' And I can't get past that."
For Sweeney, it's about feeling safe with Euphoria creator, writer, and director Sam Levinson.
"I fully trust in the filmmakers that I work with, and I'm always so excited for whatever Sam writes," she said, adding that acting can be like a journey into her character. "It's as if it's someone else's life."
Regardless of what the audience may think of her performing without clothes, Sweeney asserted that she is comfortable doing so, saying, "I have no problems with those scenes, and I won't stop doing them."
"But I wish there was an easier way to have an open conversation about what we're assuming about actors in the industry," she concluded.
Euphoria is currently streaming on HBO Max.
