The Handmaid's Tale will end with Season 6.

Ahead of Season 5's premiere, Hulu has renewed the dystopian drama for a sixth and final season. The Margaret Atwood adaptation has earned the streamer its share of Emmys and Golden Globes, but it will soon be time for the gals of Gilead to hang up their bonnets.

"It has been a true honor to tell the story of Margaret Atwood's groundbreaking novel and chillingly relevant world, and we are thrilled to bring viewers a sixth and final season of The Handmaid's Tale," said creator and showrunner Bruce Miller. "We are grateful to Hulu and MGM for allowing us to tell this story, which unfortunately has remained as relevant as ever throughout its run, and are in awe of our incredible fans for their unwavering support, and without whom we never would have gotten to this point."

While The Handmaid's Tale is coming to a close, Miller did confirm that he is developing a sequel series based on Atwood's novel The Testaments, set some 15 years after the events of its predecessor. More details have not been announced yet.

The Handmaid's Tale Season 5 premieres on Hulu with a two-episode drop September 14.
