After a whirlwind year that included a wide-ranging co-host search, a few major controversies, and the midterm elections, the women of The View are putting their feet up for a bit. For the next few weeks, The View will be on its annual holiday hiatus, giving the co-hosts an opportunity to celebrate with their families and recharge before diving back into Hot Topics in 2023.
While some viewers may be enjoying their time away from the panel, others are likely curious about The View’s holiday hiatus and the show’s plans to return in the new year. Here’s everything you need to know about The View’s winter break:
It is indeed. On Friday, December 16, The View aired its final live episode of 2022, a holiday spectacular featuring the legendary Darlene Love, who performed her hit song “Christmas, Baby Please Come Home” for the eighth time on the show. The co-hosts will take two weeks off for some rest and relaxation before returning in January.
Rather than air new episodes of The View during the holidays, ABC will offer encore presentations in the show’s usual time slot (Monday – Friday at 11/10c). These re-runs will feature interviews with stars including Mindy Kaling and Samuel L. Jackson, musical performances, and even Whoopi Goldberg’s November birthday celebration.
The View returns from its holiday hiatus on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. Guests for the first week of January have not yet been announced.
All six of The View’s co-hosts are expected to return in the new year, though it remains to be seen whether they will maintain their fall schedule. Throughout the first half of Season 26, Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg were typically absent one day per week (Joy on Mondays, and Whoopi on Fridays), with Ana Navarro filling their seats on those days. Meanwhile, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin did the heavy lifting as five-days-a-week panelists.
If the holiday hiatus has you concerned about the future of the daytime talk show, rest assured: The View is safe from cancellation. The ABC staple continues to dominate its counterparts, ranking No. 1 in households and total viewers among all network and syndicated daytime talk shows and news programs this season. The View is also up year-to-year in total viewers for the first consecutive week, drawing a total of 2.345 million eyeballs during the week of December 5.
