Trevor Noah has no patience for the "racists" upset by The Little Mermaid reboot.
In a segment addressing the racist backlash to the trailer for the Halle Bailey-led mermaid movie, The Daily Show host seemed baffled that this was an issue again. "Really, people? We're doing this again?"
In response to Bailey looking "nothing like" the red-haired mermaid from the 1989 Disney animated film, Noah couldn't help but mock the trolls. "Nothing like? They both have the tail, they both have the red [hair]," he said. "Once again, a bunch of Internet racists are upset that a fictional character is being played by a Black person."
"Stop being ridiculous. It's imaginary. I hope this scandal doesn’t overshadow the rest of the movie," Noah continued, before throwing in a jab at the film's premise. "The Little Mermaid is a beautiful story about a young woman changing her core identity to please a man. Let’s not forget about that, people."
The Little Mermaid opens in May 2023.
