Terry “Hulk Hogan” Bollea was a celebrated yet controversial figure throughout his public life.

After the wrestling legend’s death, many are remembering him for different reasons. An X user, Biollante (@BivouacChillin), recounted Bollea’s racially insensitive remarks during a jailhouse phone call with son Nick Hogan, following his 2007 accident. The account tweeted,

“I will always remember when hulk hogan's son killed someone while driving drunk and the hulkster said his whole family would be reincarnated as black people as punishment”

The X post incorrectly claims that Nick Hogan killed someone in the accident. However, the jail phone recording mentioned in the tweet resurfaced in 2015. In the conversation, Hulk Hogan used the n-word multiple times, Spectrum Bay News 9 reported. While talking to Nick, Bollea also made a racially charged statement. Hulk Hogan said (via Spectrum Bay News 9),

“You know that God gave you this vibe and this, this, energy that you and I are going to live forever, bro. I just hope we don't come back as a couple, I don't want to say it, blizz-ack gizz-uys, you know what I'm saying?”

For those unaware, Nick Hogan was involved in a car accident that happened on August 26, 2007. The reality TV star, who was 17 at the time, was driving his father’s Toyota Supra, Spectrum Bay News 9 reported. Police told the press that Nick appeared to have “disregarded traffic control devices” before his vehicle crashed into a palm tree.

The authorities confirmed that the passenger, John Graziano, didn’t have his seatbelt on, while Hogan was wearing one. Following the incident, Graziano, a veteran Marine, was left critically injured. After the crash, both were hospitalized, but the passenger was left with irreparable brain damage and has required full-time care ever since, per Sports Illustrated.

Hulk Hogan’s son Nick Hogan was sentenced to eight months in prison after the 2007 accident

Terry Bollea’s son crashed his Toyota Supra, which resulted in permanent brain injuries to the passenger. Months after the incident, Nick Hogan turned himself in in November 2007, the Associated Press reported. At the time, the police shared that Hulk Hogan’s son was racing against a Dodge Viper, also owned by the late wrestler.

The authorities reportedly charged Nick as an adult offender, despite his being 17. The Hogan family spokesman, Adam Handelsman, shared his disappointment in a statement that read (via the Times Herald-Record),

“Because Nick is still a juvenile and has no prior criminal record, we are disappointed that he is being charged as an adult offender. However, we are confident that the evidence will demonstrate that this was an accident.”

Months after his incarceration, Nick and Hulk Hogan’s jail phone conversations were publicly released. As mentioned, one of those recordings later resurfaced, sparking another controversy for the ex-WWE legend.

Nick Hogan received eight months in prison in May 2008, according to News19 WLTX. He also faced five years’ probation and 500 hours of community service. Per the Lakeland Ledger, Nick was granted an early release from probation in 2012, after an initial rejection in 2011.
