WATCH: Jon Stewart Calls Out His Own Old 'Sh*tty, Reductive' Anti-Trans Jokes

The comedian owned up to derogatory Daily Show bits on his Apple TV+ show this weekend.
  • Jon Stewart isn't proud of the tone-deaf jokes he made during his time hosting The Daily Show

In the Season 2 premiere for his Apple TV+ show The Problem with Jon Stewart, the comedian called out his own "sh*tty, reductive jokes" during a monologue discussing the gender "binary".

"We are in a new dawn of gender and sex complexity," Stewart began. "Where those who don't fit into a simple binary are meant to be seen with humanity. It wasn't always like this, people!"

Stewart then gestured to an old photo of himself hosting The Daily Show and continued. "As recently as, let's say, the 1990s, early 2000s, people were making sh*tty, reductive jokes about the subject," said Stewart. "What can I say? The joke rhymed. Sh*tty and reductive jokes are kind of my brand."

The host spent the rest of his monologue mocking figures like Ted Cruz, Tucker Carlson, and other celebrities, news pundits, and right-wing politicians for their narrow-minded views about gender. Later on in the show, he interviewed Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge about the state's banning of gender-affirming care for minors, an exchange that saw him able to get very few straight answers.

New episodes of The Problem with Jon Stewart stream on Apple TV+ Fridays.
