Besim Muminovic, a former Nassau Lions flag football player, died on Sunday, October 21, following an accident in Brooklyn, New York City.
According to ABC7 New York, a white Mercedes-Benz sedan collided with a motorcycle, leaving two people dead. The traffic collision happened on the Belt Parkway in the Sheepshead Bay neighborhood, the outlet reported. Police sources revealed that the sedan was speeding westbound on the NYC parkway.
The authorities confirmed that the Mercedes-Benz slammed into a motorcycle on its exit to Shore Parkway. CCTV footage from the area captured the sedan crashing through the nearby parked cars and flipping over. Multiple outlets reported that the Mercedes-Benz driver left his injured front-seat passenger to flee on foot.
The motorcycle operator died following the incident, while the injured occupant of the sedan succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. According to FokusPress.com, the motorcyclist was identified as the 28-year-old Besim Muminovic. The website reported that the identity of the other victim has yet to be disclosed by the NYPD.
ABC7 NY, the New York Post and CBS News have confirmed that the police department is searching for the sedan operator, who escaped following the crash on Sunday evening. The accident also damaged the car that belonged to a nurse, who had finished a 12-hour shift at the nearby Coney Island Hospital. She tolf ABC7 NY:
“Thank God I'm okay. I wasn't here but if I'm here sitting or sleeping or if I'm driving and this happened, it saved my life. It's just a car.”
While the search for the sedan driver is still underway, many have shared their condolences online, reacting to the news of Besim Muminovic’s death.
The 28-year-old lost his life in an accident with a Mercedes-Benz sedan on Sunday evening. After Muminovic’s identity was confirmed, many sent their condolences and paid tribute to the late flag football player.
Deuce Dutch, a Manhattan resident, wrote on Facebook:

Besim Muminovic’s former teammate, Elkwaun Darling, remembered the late collegiate athlete and wrote:
“Wish we had a picture of the last NYC HSPD 7on7 team one of the best memories of my life glad i had the honor to be your teammate and to have you as a big brother Besim Brady Muminovic.”
Elkwaun added:
“Glad we got to get on that field together one more time yesterday and play the game we love & that made us brothers R.I.P my guy love always🩵.”
Kevaun Dunn, a former Flushing High School and Nassau Community College alumnus like Besim, shared a heartfelt message:
“Besim Brady Muminovic Didnt even want to write this. I have no words brudah. Rest in peace. Hope god & you continue to watch over your mother. My flushing brothers, coaches, friends. Yall stay blessed”.
Muminovic, born in 1996, was the son of a Montenegrin immigrant couple, according to FokusPress.com. The outlet reported that Besim’s father, Rasim, hailed from Plav, while his mother was from Bijelo Polje. According to the late football player’s profile on Nassau Lions’ website, he grew up in Astoria, Queens, and went to Flushing High School, where his athletic career began.
