Gloucester High School is mourning the loss of Chris Dailey, who was gravely injured in a car crash that happened on Monday, June 30, 2025. After the accident, the teen was transported by air to a Boston hospital, according to the Gloucester Times

Two days after the traffic collision, Chris’ father, Rich Dailey, shared an update regarding his condition. Dailey wrote a heartbreaking Facebook post revealing that his child will not recover from the injuries. Rich revealed that his son is currently on “life support,” and the family has decided to donate organs. Here’s what the statement read:

“We are heartbroken to share that Christopher will not recover from his injuries. He is on life-support in preparation for organ donation, but will soon be with the Lord. Although we haven’t left the hospital since the accident, we have been overwhelmed by everyone’s love, prayers, support, and generosity.”

Rich acknowledged the support his son Chris Dailey received from the community and asked everyone to pray for the others impacted by the accident.

“Our family and friends who attended the healing mass at Our Lady’s, shared that the turnout was amazing; so although he didn’t pull through this, its comforting to know that Chris is loved by so many.  Please continue to pray for his other friends who were injured, and everyone being impacted by this senseless accident. We will share more on plans for services, when we are able. Love, Rich, Nicole, Rachel, and Christopher”

For those unaware, Chris Dailey was a member of Gloucester High School’s Class of 2025, which graduated in June. He was also the captain of the Gloucester Fishermen varsity hockey team and a standout player. According to Rich Dailey’s Facebook profile, he originally hails from Rockport, but his family currently resides in Gloucester, Massachusetts.

Chris Dailey and four others were injured after a wrong-way head-on crash on Monday

On June 30, 2025, the recent high school graduate was traveling in a car with his friends, all of whom were aged between 18 and 19 years old, according to the Gloucester Times. When the teenagers were on Route 128, their vehicle collided with another car, driven by an 80-year-old person. The accident resulted in Chris Dailey getting critically injured, while his friends were also wounded.

As mentioned, the GHS hockey player was reportedly airlifted to a Boston hospital. On the other hand, the other driver was also in critical condition after he was rushed to Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington, per Fire Chief Eric Smith. According to WCVB 5 ABC, Greg Verga, the mayor of Gloucester, confirmed that the 80-year-old man was driving the wrong way.

After Chris Dailey’s family announced the news about his condition, the superintendent of Gloucester Public Schools, Ben Lummis, also issued a statement sharing his condolences.

“This news about Chris is heartbreaking. Heartbreaking for his friends who just shared the excitement and thrill of graduating high school with him. Heartbreaking for too many of our staff whose own children are close friends with Christopher, and now not only have to experience losing Christopher, but also witness their own children struggle with the pain of his passing. And of course, heartbreaking for Chris’s family. Our deepest condolences are with Chris’s family and friends.”

    He added,

“Gloucester has faced many tragedies for literally hundreds of years, but few are worse than the death of a young person, taken just as they are stepping out into the world. This type of tragedy creates a hole in our hearts that may never be filled.”

For those unaware, the other occupants of the car were also GHS graduates named Lexi Carollo, Colby Jewell, and Bella Iacono. As of this writing, there is no update on the condition of any of the injured, other than Chris Dailey.
