“Why is CBS news constantly posting about Erika Kirk?”: Network under Bari Weiss hosting Charlie Kirk’s widow in Town Hall sparks outrage online

CBS News has come under fire for its multiple posts about its recently aired “A Town Hall with Erika Kirk.”

The network’s official handles shared multiple tweets discussing its prime-time TV special, which was moderated by the newly appointed editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss. The Town Hall program aired on Saturday, December 13. The current Turning Point USA (TPUSA) CEO spoke about the death of her husband, grief, political discourse, and more. 

The special program hosting Erika Kirk has garnered criticism for the network, with many netizens sharing their views on X. A user highlighted various posts made by CBS News under one of its tweets and wrote: 

“Why is CBS News constantly posting about Erika Kirk? Weird” 

Another user shared: 

“Won’t be watching, since the story isn’t new, and Mrs. Kirk has already been all over the media. How can it be revelatory?” 

One user criticized CBS News by calling the program “a rehearsed pretend ‘town hall’”:

“not a ‘town-hall’ - more like a rehearsed pretend ‘town hall’.  why so much fakery?”

Many objected to the network’s various tweets about its latest TV special, hosting the TPUSA CEO. Many liberal internet users were among those who criticized CBS News over A Town Hall with Erika Kirk.

@BigBlueWaveUSA, a popular Democrat account on X, compared CBS News with Fox and attacked Erika Kirk: 

"Memo to CBS: HELL NO.
America does not support your goal of out-foxing Fox News.
Erika Kirk is a calculating grifter. Nothing more. Nothing less.
We’re not watching your right wing hate filled propaganda show."

Ron Filipkowski, an attorney who also serves as the editor-in-chief of MeidasTouch, shared a screenshot of a tweet from the network’s official account and wrote: 

“CBS News has now made 13 posts about Erika Kirk in the last 2 days, dominating their news page over all other stories.” 

Many agreed with Filipkowski’s criticism in the replies. 

“CBS turning into the Erika Kirk Network with 13 puff pieces in two days, congrats on becoming Fox Lite under new Trump-friendly ownership,” a user asserted. 

“Bari Weiss need to just cancel the Town Hall at this point 💀 Too risky,” Another user suggested. 

“A great way to end viewership!,” one user added. 

“It’s even worse on local news channels. They’re pushing it so hard that my normie parents want to find a new news channel to watch because they’re sick of it and don’t trust “the new management” lol,” another one criticized CBS News for promoting the town hall. 

While many blasted the CBS News special for hosting Erika Kirk, the program also generated a viral clip. The TPUSA CEO was asked to comment on Candace Owens and her conspiracy theories following Charlie Kirk’s assassination. Bari Weiss mentioned Owens and asked Erika: 

“The podcaster Candace Owens, okay? At one time, a friend of Charlie’s. At one time, an employee of Turning Point. She has been one of the main peddlers of these conspiracies, and she is making a huge amount of money on it. She is building her business off of these lies. What do you want to say to her and the other people that are putting these lies out into the world right now?”

Erika Kirk’s facial expressions shifted from a smile, as she grew stern and responded: 

“Stop. That’s it. That’s all I have to say. Stop.” 

After Charlie Kirk’s assassination, Owens had questioned various angles and raised doubts about the suspected assassin, Tyler Robinson’s role. She has also constantly called out the TPUSA leadership after Charlie’s death in September.
