YouTuber and live streamer Pirate Software, whose real name is Jason ‘Thor’ Hall slammed a viewer suggesting that he make an apology video to cool down the controversy surrounding his criticism of the Stop Killing Games initiative.
According to Dexerto, during a live stream on Twitch, Hall read aloud a viewer’s suggestion and said,
“Put up a video saying you were wrong with every situation and the internet will move on? I am not doing that. I don’t give a f**k.”
Continuing, Hall said,
“Yeah, simply bend the knee and lie about how you feel, and everyone will stop bullying you! That’s a great idea, dude. Yeah, no, eat s*it.”
Lately, Pirate Software has been incessantly targeted on social media due to his criticism of the Stop Killing Games movement initiated by the YouTuber, Accursed Farms. According to another report by Dexerto, Hall has lost around 110,000 subscribers on YouTube since he actively became involved in a back and forth with Accursed Farms.
Hall has also alleged that he received “tens of thousands of death threats” and was harassed by ‘swatting,’ as per Game Rant.
Hall, who is an indie game developer in addition to being a streamer, quit his job at OffBrand Games due to the developer’s games being badly reviewed en masse by supporters of the Stop Killing Games initiative. Hall made the announcement via his Pirate Software page on X on July 3.
The Stop Killing Games movement has been campaigning since 2024 for legislation to prevent video game developers from destroying defunct games, and instead preserving obsolete games. It’s founder, Ross Scott, who also runs the YouTube channel Accursed Farms, was criticized by Jason Hall, who released two videos on his Pirate Software channel in August 2024, delving into the details of his disagreement with the movement’s goals.
In one of his videos criticizing the movement, Hall said,
“If we're going to be setting precedent which could change the way that law works all the way down the road, then we need to be sending the right message message, which this is sending a vague message that doesn't cover the actual problem. So this is not a win to me, this is a huge risk.”
Scott released a video on his channel, Accursed Farms in June 2025, claiming that the Stop Killing Games movement had lost momentum. In his video, he also called out Pirate Software, and said,
“Our biggest critic by far is YouTuber and streamer Pirate Software, who goes by Thor. If your only exposure to Stop Killing Games has been this video, then you've been misinformed. This video is by someone who does not understand the campaign, has been trying to stop it, and has been making up what it is about. I am not saying that lightly.”
Hall took to X to repeat his disagreements with the initiative, and wrote,
“My main issue with this initiative is that it is broad in it's approach to change the industry and the exact language of the initiative, not the FAQ, requests that all games stay in a ‘Functional Playable State.’ This is not feasible for all games at a technical level and could potentially restrict developers from making online-only games like MMOs, MOBAs, and User Generated Content games in the future.”
Despite the public debate around the initiative, it recently gained support from Nicolae Stefanuta, the Vice President of the European Parliament, as per Game Rant.
