Anthony Mackie hasn't lett his checkered political past keep him from becoming the new Captain America, but that time he got impeached in the ninth grade still seems to stick in his craw.
After talking to Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show Wednesday night about his bromance with Sebastian Stan, his co-star in the upcoming The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series, Mackie revealed the sordid saga of his scandal while running for student council.
"School politics is sketchy, man," he said, explaining that he had to bribe his classmates with Blow-Pops to get them to vote. "I ended up winning, so I was student body president, and the dude who lost — I ain't gonna say his name, he was a wankster, I still remember his name — he literally sabotaged my campaign and backslid me and got me impeached.in ninth grade because I didn't go to P.E. I had too many absences from P.E.!"
Perhaps that was the hard lesson Mackie needed to learn in order to hit the gym hard enough to become a Marvel superhero.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2021.
