Blake Shelton Inadvertently Admits The Voice Lacks Star-Making Power

It may have taken 10 years and 20 seasons, but Blake Shelton finally thinks that The Voice has found its "first superstar" in contestant Cam Anthony. During Monday's Live Playoffs, Shelton praised Anthony's performance of "Take Me to Church" by Hozier, but he accidentally shaded the long-running singing competition in the process. You know, the same singing competition that signs his paychecks.

In the past few weeks, Anthony has established himself as a strong competitor, but he kicked things up a notch with his powerful rendition of "Take Me to Church." The performance was met with a standing ovation from Shelton, his coach, who insisted that Anthony has the talent to make it post-Voice.

"I promised you when you joined my team that I would keep the lane open for you, and I would do everything I could to get you to this point, but the rest has to be up to you, man," said Shelton. "And you have delivered every time you stand on this stage."

"I've never had more people ask me about an artist on my team in 20 seasons of doing this show, man," he continued. "You could be the first superstar that we launch off the show."

The first star in 20 seasons? That's not exactly a great track record for a show competing with the likes of American Idol, the alma mater of Shelton's fellow coach, Kelly Clarkson.

Could Cam Anthony go on to win The Voice Season 20 and establish himself as a breakout new artist with that coveted United Records contract? Only time will tell...

The Voice airs Monday and Tuesdays at 8:00 PM ET on NBC.
