Camila Mendes, who plays Veronica Lodge on CW's Riverdale, stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Thursday night to talk about the show's upcoming time-jump when the conversation turned to how she'd like the series to eventually end.
After mentioning that the cast had recently watched the High School Musical saga ("the best cinematic trilogy of all time," says Mendes), she recalled how the third installment went all out. "They made it a full cinematic experience. It went to theaters. It wasn't just on Disney Channel, it was in theaters, because it was like their big graduation, you know? Saying goodbye to the franchise and all the characters, and the music was next level... We were all watching it like 'is this what it's going to be like when Riverdale is over?' I hope they do the same thing, like we all jump into the air and freeze frame."
Of course, Riverdale may have just aired their graduation episode, but unlike High School Musical this is not the end of the road, with next week's seven-year time jump intended to usher in a new era for the show. "Our characters are in their mid-20s and they all have their own separate lives," Mendes explains, "and then Archie calls them and kind of summons them back to Riverdale for a mysterious reason."
Riverdale airs Wednesdays at 8:00 PM ET on CW.
