Who's Who in Invincible's Massive Voice Cast

Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman hits Amazon Prime this week with the new animated series Invincible, based on his long-running comic book series of the same name. A superhero story about a superpowered alien dad and his half-alien superpowered son, the series boasts a cast larger than any we've seen in recent memory. Wondering who all is lending their voices to this very bloody show? You've come to the right place.

The Series Leads

Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson / Invincible
Amazon couldn't have picked a better time to debut a series with Steven Yeun voicing its lead character. The Korean-American actor spent six seasons as a cornerstone character on Kirkman's The Walking Dead, and his (gruesome) death in the Season 7 premiere is still a sore spot for many fans. Since departing The Walking Dead, Yeun has had a string of career highlights, appearing in Bong Joon-ho's Okja, delivering a critically lauded performance in the Oscar-nominated Korean film Burning, and getting his own Oscar nomination this year as Best Actor for his performance as a father trying to make a life for his family in the heartland in Minari. In Invincible he plays Mark Grayson, the son of superpowered hero Omni-Man. who comes into his inherited powers as a teenager and must learn to control and use them to do good.

Oscar winner J.K. Simmons was already a hugely successful character actor before his breakthrough role in Whiplash brought him piles of trophies. His two best-known TV roles have been as Dr. Emile Skoda in the Law & Order franchise and as white-supremacist prisoner Vern Schillinger on HBO's Oz. As Nolan Grayson, a.k.a. Omni-Man, Simmons voices the world's most powerful superhero. As he tries to raise his superpowered son to follow in his footsteps, Nolan also harbors some secrets of his own.

Sandra Oh's best-known roles are Cristina Yang, the heart surgeon who she played for ten seasons on Grey's Anatomy, and Eve Polastri, the MI5 agent obsessed with a killer on Killing Eve. The Ontario-born actress has also been in films like The Princess Diaries and Sideways, TV shows like American Crime, and voice roles in shows like She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. In Invincible she voices Debbie Grayson, wife of Nolan and mom to Mark.

The Walking Dead Alums

There are so many famous names among the seriously stacked voice cast that rather than going through all thirty-three listed in the trailer individually, we're grouping them up. First up: the show's large contingent of Walking Dead cast members, which makes sense considering it's Kirkman.

Lauren Cohan, TWD's Maggie, voices "War Woman."

Chad L. Coleman, who played Tyreese, voices Invincible's Martian Man.

Michael Cudlitz, whose Abraham met his unfortunate end on The Walking Dead just before Glenn, voices (somewhat appropriately, considering Abraham's hair coloring) Red Rush.

Lennie James, TWD's Morgan, voices Darkwing, a superhero gone bad.

Ross Marquand, Aaron on The Walking Dead and most recently Red Skull in Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, voices both The Immortal (leader of a group called the Guardians of the Globe) and Aquarius.

Sonequa Martin-Green, who played Sasha on TWD and is currently Michael Burnham on Star Trek: Discovery, voices Green Ghost.

Khary Payton, King Ezekiel himself, voices Black Samson, one of the Guardians of the Globe.

The Comic Book Adaptation All-Stars

Any good genre property worth its salt knows to pepper its cast (get it?) with actors who bring with them the gravitas of other beloved comic book adaptations. Invincible's voice cast is teeming with people like that.

Mahershala Ali, who's been cast as the vampire daywalker Blade in the upcoming Marvel film, voices Titan, one of the many enemies Mark/Invincible has to face.

Djimon Hounsou, the two-time Academy Award nominee (for In America and Blood Diamond) who played Korath the Pursuer in Guardians of the Galaxy, provides the voice of Martian Emperor.

Zazie Beetz, who was last seen opposite Joaquin Phoenix in Joker, and who played Domino in Deadpool 2, voices Amber Bennett, a love interest for Mark.

Ezra Miller, currently zipping all around as Barry Allen/The Flash in the "Snyder Cut" of Justice League, voices D.A. Sinclair, a villain who ends up creating a race of robotic zombies.

Seth Rogen, who, don't forget, played the Green Hornet in the eponymous film, voices Allen the Alien, an intergalactic ally to Mark.

Mae Whitman, who ruled as Roxy Richter in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, voices Fightmaster and Dropkick, a pair of time-traveling martial arts masters.

Walton Goggins, recently seen playing a villain in Ant-Man and the Wasp, voices Cecil Stedman, a government figure trying to defend planet Earth.

The Genre Legends

Another prerequisite for any genre property is to secure the participation of at least one legend within the business. Invincible has a few:

Mark Hamill, whom you may have heard of for his role as Luke Skywalker, famous Jedi from a handful of Star Wars films, voices Art Rosenbaum, the Grayson's family tailor who makes all of their super-suits. Hamill was last seen at odds with one Jackie Daytona in an episode of What We Do in the Shadows.

Michael Dorn, who played Worf for the entire run of Star Trek: The Next Generation (plus some movies) provides the voice of Battle Beast, a cat-like alien who enjoys battling for the sport of it.

Zachary Quinto isn't exactly Leonard Nimoy, but he does play Spock in the new Star Trek films. Here he plays Rudy Connors, a.k.a. Robot, a member of the Teen Team of high-school superheroes.

The Voice Actors

Plenty of the featured cast in Invincible are veterans of the voice-actor economy, having provided voice work in countless animated projects.

Andrew Rannells made a name for himself on Broadway in The Book of Mormon and on TV in shows like Girls and Black Monday, but he's also a prolific voice performer, providing the voice on English-language re-dubs of a ton of Japanese manga adaptations. He voices William Clockwell, Mark's (non-superpowered) best friend in Invincible.

Rannells's Big Mouth co-star Jason Mantzoukas has been a voice in The LEGO Batman Movie (as the Scarecrow), Ralph Breaks the Internet, Doolittle, DuckTales, and the HBO Max series Close Enough. He voices Rex Sloan, a.k.a. Rex Splode, another member of the Teen Team.

You may know Clancy Brown from TV shows like Carnivale and films like The Shawshank Redemption, but did you also know he's the voice of Mr. Krabs on SpongeBob Squarepants? Because you should. He voices Damien Darkblood on Invincible.

Gillian Jacobs is probably best known for her performance as Britta on Community, but she's also been a voice on Rick and Morty, Justice League Action, Star Trek Lower Decks, and more. She provides the voice of Samantha Eve Wilkins, a.k.a. Atom Eve, the leader of the Teen Team.

Max Burkolder was part of the cast of NBC's Parenthood, playing young Max Braverman, but he's also provided voices for projects like the Land Before Time TV series and My Friends Tigger & Pooh. He voices Oliver Grayson, Mark's half-brother.

Chris Diamantopoulos may be best known for playing the bombastic Russ Hanneman on Silicon Valley, but he's also voiced Green Arrow in the Batman Unlimited series of films and shorts. He voices Doc Seismic, a villain who can induce earthquakes.

Grey Griffin is an incredibly prolific voice actress whose credits include Vicky from The Fairly OddParents and Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender. She currently voices Martin Prince, Sheri, and Teri on The Simpsons. On Invincible, she provides the voice of Shrinking Ray, one of the Guardians of the Globe.

Kevin Michael Richardson, a voice actor from shows like Family Guy and The Cleveland Show, voices the villainous Mauler twins.

Melise is best known for her roles on the Nickelodeon series Unfabulous and Big Time Rush, as well as a recurring role as Anna on The Vampire Diaries. She's not really a voice actor by trade, but she's got a pop music career, so we'll slot her in this group. She voices Kate Cha, a.k.a. Dupli-Kate, one of the Teen Team on Invincible.

The Gay Bait

For lack of a better term or a more comprehensive grouping, but honestly, the term is apt.

Nicole Byer is of course the hilarious and beloved comedian and host of Netflix's Nailed It! (and also a recurring judge this season on RuPaul's Drag Race). She voices the roles of Vanessa and Fiona.

Tony-nominated actor Jonathan Groff (Spring Awakening; Hamilton) has starred in such shows as Looking and Glee. He plays the role of Rick Sheridan, one of Mark's classmates.

He's Jon Hamm. Don Draper himself. Does he need further introduction? He provides the voice of a new character named Steve.

The first three episodes of Invincible premiere on Amazon Prime March 26th, with future episodes dropping Fridays through April.
