Jim Parsons and Mayim Bialik visit Ellen Thursday to discuss their new collaboration, Call Me Kat As they reveal in the above clip, Parsons first approached Bialik about starring in the new FOX series when they were still co-stars on Big Bang Theory.
"Jim came to me and he said 'I want to know what you think about this project that my company has,'" Bialik explained. "It's this Miranda show, it was really popular on the BBC, so I went home, I did a little research, and I came back the next day and I said 'well, Jim, that seems like a really awesome project, good luck, you've got my vote of confidence!' And he said, 'no, I'm asking because I want you to be in it!' And I was shocked because I think I'm very annoying, but however annoying I am, he obviously still wanted to work with me."
Parsons ran with that. "I think that the annoying quality you bring is what Amerca responds to, Mayim. I think that's what this character wanted," he joked.
Even Ellen DeGeneres joined in. "That's very relatable. Everyone, we know someone annoying, so that's perfect."
Later, DeGeneres asked Parsons why he would produce a show that featured a lot of actual cats when he himself is allergic to them, and Bialik brought the joke back around. "It's the only way he could plan to work with me, if he never had to be around me, because I'm so annoying!" she quipped.
Parsons did note that there was an episode of The Big Bang Theory where he was surrounded by cats, and basically as long as he had Claritin and didn't touch his face, he was okay.
Call Me Kat airs Thursday nights at 9:00 PM ET on FOX
