Kate McKinnon is usually the hardest to break on Saturday Night Live due to how deeply she gets into her characters, so you can imagine our surprise when she appeared to break character last night. In a Weekend Update segment mocking Trump's televised medical evaluation, her guise of Dr. Wayne Wenowdis ("We Know Dis") soon breaks down into gibberish, prompting "Weekend Update" anchor Colin Jost to ask her directly "Kate, are you okay?"
Her response: "Obviously not."
She then explains that Dr. Wenowdis is a character she's retreated into to cope with the strange tension of the times we're living in and just how much of "dis" we don't know. As the sketch ends, it becomes apparent that this was likely a planned swerve for a thin premise to break some of that tension, at least for a moment.
