You've heard of Captain Marvel, but what do you know about Ms. Marvel? This sizzle reel featuring first-look footage will help get you up to speed.
Rather than dredge up the whole convoluted history of Captain Marvel (to give you a hint, the name originally belonged to that guy in the DC Comics movie Shazam!), let's focus on the relatively recent history of Kamala Khan, a Pakistani-American teenager introduced in Marvel Comics in 2013, who took on the name of Ms. Marvel because her idol Carol Danvers was no longer using it when she stepped up to become Captain Marvel. She's got super stretchy powers and she enjoys borrowing a term from The Simpsons to "embiggen" — meaning she can grow to giant sizes.
In the new Disney+ series coming next year and set in Marvel Cinematic Universe, Khan will be played by Iman Vellani. This clip even shows us her reaction to getting the news that she was the unanimous choice for the starring role.
Ms. Marvel premeires in late 2021 on Disney+.
