America's Got Talent judge Simon Cowell made his feelings about 40-year-old performer Johnny Showcase clear last night when he proclaimed Showcase's bizarre, disco-influenced original number "the worst song [he's] ever heard on a live show."
Showcase, a novelty singer from Philadelphia, knew he'd be taking a risk by donning multi-colored spandex and singing an original song, "The Octopus" (further explanation wouldn't help; just watch the clip above), but he likely wasn't prepared for Cowell's brutally honest criticism. The judge buzzed out Showcase mid-performance, and after the fact, he explained why he was so viscerally opposed to the tentacle-filled number. "It was horrific. Absolutely horrific," said Cowell. "Honestly, you were so good the first time. This song about an octopus was horrible."
Other than Heidi Klum, who repeatedly said that she "loved" the number, Cowell's fellow judges weren't much kinder. Howie Mandel also X'd Showcase mid-song, and he dinged the performer's "not funny" original song.
"I don't know what is happening tonight. I felt like you guys lost your essence," added Sofia Vergara. "What does a giant octopus have to do with anything? To me it didn't click like last time. I couldn't feel it tonight."
Johnny Showcase will learn his fate during AGT's live results show. America's Got Talent airs Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 8:00 PM ET on NBC.
