Stephen Colbert Calls for Trump To Be 'Dragged In Manacles Before The Hague'

Stephen Colbert made perhaps his strongest statement yet about President Trump Wednesday night while adressing the administation's "inhumane" treatment of refugee families.

"Trump says and does a lot of dumb things, but we should never let his stupidity overshadow the fact that he's also a heartless monster who must be driven from office and eventually dragged in manacles before The Hague," he said, referring to the international court system that prosecutes crimes against humanity. "Because, of all the horrible things that he and his administration has done, perhaps the horriblest [sic] is the family separation policy on the border." 

News broke Wednesday that the parents of at least 545 children — "that's not a child on a milk carton, that's the whole dairy aisle," Colbert noted — who were separated from their families at the US border have not been able to be found. "Tearing these children away from their parents wasn't some bureaucratic oversight," he added. "This was the plan. Cruelty was the plan."

"There are still people who haven't made up their minds. There are still people who are going to vote for him," he marveled, appealing to the voters directly. "I know that people vote on a lot of different issues, but now that we know that these children were stolen from their parents and cannot be returned because of the negligence of this administration, that is one of the things you're voting on. You can't say you don't know. And I don't believe the American people are evil."
