Much like the rest of the world, Stephen Colbert had a field day with Trump's backwards pants fiasco at the North Carolina GOP convention. Rather than take the easy route and simply mock the former president, Colbert opted to fact check the situation in an attempt to get to the bottom of pants-gate. The verdict? "Either he shares a tailor with a Ken doll," said the late night host, "Or he spends so much time yanking stuff out of his keister, it just helps to have the zipper back there to make it easy."
As part of his investigation, Colbert noted that he's not the only one who's been enjoying Trump's pants debacle. "On Twitter, the former president quickly drew comparisons to '90s child hip-hop duo famous for wearing their pants backward, Kris Kross," he said. "That, of course, is ridiculous. Their initials are 'K.K.,' which is one less than the ex-president prefers."
Ultimately, both Colbert and fact-checking site Snopes ruled that Trump did not have his pants on backwards, after all. Still, said Colbert, "It raised a lot of questions, like: How did he zip the pants? Was his belt also on backward? And how lucky are we that this man no longer has the nuclear codes?"
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 PM ET on CBS.
