Tuesday's premiere of Superman & Lois featured a loving homage to the history of the Man of Steel in this opening sequence clip.
Tyler Hoechlin's first appearance as Superman shows him saving a big green car from certain doom, just as was seen on the cover of 1938's Action Comics #1, Superman's first appearance as created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. The particular version of the costume he's wearing comes from Superman's first-ever on-screen appearance in Fleischer Studio's beautiful 1941 animated short films, although the choice of the very pale blue also seems to reference the live-action 1948 movie serial look as well.
Superman & Lois airs Tuesdays at 8:00 PM ET on CW.
