Late-night hosts Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon were in for quite a surprise Wednesday night when their respective guests for the evening, Ryan Reynolds and Will Ferrell, swapped appearances. The Jimmys were game to play along with the switcheroo, which ultimately saw Ferrell answer questions about Reynolds' big-budget action flick Red Notice, and Reynolds promote Ferrell's Apple TV+ series The Shrink Next Door.
For his part, Ferrell, who showed up to the Jimmy Kimmel Live! set in pajamas and slippers, said Reynolds asked him to fill in on the ABC talk show because he "was running late" for the scheduled appearance (considering he was in New York filming The Tonight Show, this makes sense).
Kimmel proceeded to ask Ferrell about Red Notice, which he hasn't seen, but seems very excited for. "I saw the billboards. They're wearing tuxedoes, so you know it's going to be classy," he said. "I think it's gonna be good?"
Across the country, Reynolds revealed he had a similar conversation about Ferrell's appearance on Fallon's Tonight Show. "He said he was running a little late, asked me if I would jump in for him," said the Red Notice star. "I said, 'Anything for you, Will. I'm in.'"
Reynolds then attempted to guess what The Shrink Next Door is about, to no avail. "It's sort of an Ant-Man sequel. It's in the Ant-Man universe," he told Fallon. "He's a shrink. He doesn't shrink his body, per se, but he's a psychiatrist so he does the psychiatrist-y things."
"He lives next door and he minimized himself in relationships, which is kind of like Ant-Man," continued Reynolds. "It's Marvel Phase 16, which everyone is saying is like, way more relatable."
Both Red Notice (Netflix) and The Shrink Next Door (Apple TV+) premiere Friday, November 12.
