No, the occasion of Saturday the 13th doesn’t hold the same kind of spooky, foreboding cachet of Friday the 13th. Which is strange, because it’s only one day off. Wouldn’t it stand to reason that it would be at least almost as scary a day as Friday the 13th? Like maybe you won’t get Jason stalking you with a hockey mask and a machete, but you will get accosted by the Salvation Army on your way out of the grocery store?
Anyway, it’s one day before Game of Thrones returns to swallow the next six weeks of spring, as was foretold when the groundhog peeked its head out and was promptly eaten by a direwolf. And although most of TV appears to be taking one big collective deep breath tonight, we’ve picked out the highlights for you.
NEW EPISODE: One episode short of the celebrated Five-Timers Club, Emma Stone is always a welcome face on Saturday Night Live. (Especially for those who remember her Christmas Candle and “Wells For Boys” sketches.) Stone tends to be game for just about anything and has a great comedic instinct, so the odds for at least one memorable home run are high. She's joined by musical guest BTS, the K-Pop boy band that has everyone atwitter. 11:30 PM ET on NBC
PREMIERE: Showtime’s documentary presentation The Resurgence: Demarcus Cousins focuses on enigmatic NBA player DeMarcus Cousins and his struggle to bounce back from a catastrophic Achilles tendon injury. 8:00 PM ET on Showtime
CABLE PREMIERE: HBO’s premiere feature film this week is a real crowd-pleaser. The 2018 summer box-office hit Crazy Rich Asians follows Rachel Chu (Fresh Off the Boat’s Constance Wu), who falls for Nick Young (Henry Golding) only to find out that his family comes from extravagant Singapore money. 8:00 PM ET on HBO
