Much ink has been spilled about the "moral panic" over HBO's Euphoria and its nihilist depiction of modern teendom (not to mention its taboo-breaking penchant for male nudity), but as the series wraps up its first season, it's also earning praise for showing a more nuanced human side of its characters.
HBO has already renewed the series for a second season, but earlier this week the network's boss warned those who may be hoping for a long-run that the show has a "time limit," owing to its high school setting.
SEASON FINALE: Fan speculation over who (if anyone) might die in tonight's season finale of Euphoria has hit a fever pitch in recent days. HBO isn't saying much, but the show's action-packed promo suggests there will be at least one violent situation. 10:00 PM ET on HBO
NEW SEASON: Netflix's Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj returns today. In a TV landscape with no shortage of political comedy, Patriot Act is the one we're calling "the best new talk show in recent memory." No, it's not a classic talker in the Letterman mold, but as a contemporary descendant of The Daily Show, it carries on that show's legacy of informing the audience while entertaining them. It's Minhaj's unique energy — youthful, cocky, smart, and informed without being heavy about it — that makes Patriot Act such a swift watch. Streaming on Netflix
SEASON PREMIERE: The fourth season of AMC's Preacher will be the show's last. Is all this carnage is part of His divine plan? We'll have to watch to find out. 9:00 PM ET on AMC
