Young love isn't exactly an unexamined subject on TV, but Hulu's new original series Normal People is being praised for its raw authenticity, two words rarely associated with such stories. All twelve episodes of the new drama drop today. Also today: the competition gets merciless on Survivor, The Masked Singer returns with fresh performances, and a Great British Baking Show alum hits Netflix with her own series. Here's what's new and noteworthy on TV this Wednesday:
SERIES PREMIERE: Much has been made of the (plentiful) nudity in Hulu's Normal People, but as Primetimer's Aaron Barnhart posits in his just-posted review, the sex scenes may be the least compelling part of this series adaptation of Sally Rooney's best-selling novel. Watch the trailer. Streaming on Hulu
NEW EPISODE: The competition is heating up on The Masked Singer as the remaining six celebrities take to stage in an all new episode. 8:00 PM ET on Fox
NEW EPISODE: With tensions rising and secret maneuverings taking their toll, an alliance is on the verge of imploding on Survivor: Winners at War. Also: the castaways on the Edge of Extinction are presented with a new challenge. Watch the preview. 8:00 PM ET on CBS
SERIES PREMIERE: Nadiya Hussein offers up quick stress-free recipes and cooking tips in her new series Nadiya's Time to Eat, inspiring Primetimer's Chris Feil to list ten other Great British Baking Show alums we'd love to see get their own shows. Watch the trailer. Streaming on Neflix
DOCUMENTARY PREMIERE: The original documentary Murder to Mercy: The Cyntoia Brown Story follows the decade and a half saga of Cyntoia Brown's fight to overturn her conviction for killing a man when she was 16 years old. Read our review. Streaming on Netflix
SEASON FINALE: The first season of Dave comes to a close tonight. The autobiographical series follows rapper and comedian Dave Burd, otherwise known as Lil Dicky, a twenty-something rapper who believes he is destined for greatness. 10:00 PM ET on FXX
SERIES PREMIERE: Netflix is importing the Italian love story Summertime, which follows the smoldering romance between Ale (Ludovico Tersigni) and Summer (Rebecca Coco Edogamhe) as they pass the summer months on Italy's Adriatic Coast. Watch the trailer. Streaming on Netflix
