With Heidi Klum returning to the judging panel alongside newcomer Sofia Vergara, the summer of 2020 was supposed to be a rebuilding year for America's Got Talent. Then came the coronavirus, which shut down production midway through the auditions. While tonight's season premiere was shot pre-shutdown in late February, like Idol and The Voice before it, AGT now plans to continue production remotely in the coming weeks after it runs out of pre-taped episodes. SEASON PREMIERE: Nothing — not even a global pandemic — will stand in the way of America's Got Talent. Future weeks will see an adapted format as the show transitions to remotely-shot episodes, but tonight's season opener (which was shot earlier this year) should give us a taste of what could have been.
