Hunter and the Hunted Get Equal Time in HBO's I'll Be Gone in the Dark

    As Primetimer's Sarah D. Bunting writes this weekend, HBO is going meta in its new six-part docuseries I'll Be Gone In The Dark, which tells the story of the late-Michelle McNamara's pursuit of the Golden State Killer. Also: Netflix drops the third and final season of its sleeper hit Dark, Dwayne Johnson hosts a star-studded benefit concert for coronavirus relief, and Showtime's Black Monday returns for the back half of its second season. Here's what's new and noteworthy on TV this weekend:

    SATURDAY JUNE 27

    NEW SEASON: While early reviews dismissed Dark as a German language Stranger Things knock off, as Alex Welch writes for Primetimer, there'smuch more to it. The sleeper hit kicks off its third and final season with Jonas (Louis Hofmann) triying to head off disaster and save the citizens of Winden. Watch the trailer. Streaming on Netflix

    BENEFIT CONCERT: Dwayne Johnson hosts the Global Goal: Unite for Our Future Concert which aims to recognize the health workers, scientists, organizations, and activists working to develop vaccines and treatments for COVID-19, and ensure that those treatments are distributed equitably around the globe. Performers set to appear include Shakira, Coldplay, Usher, Jennifer Hudson, Justin Bieber and Lin Manuel Miranda with the original Broadway cast of Hamilton. Watch a preview. 8:00 PM ET on NBC

    CABLE PREMIERE: HBO's big Saturday night movie premier is Doctor Sleep. The 2019 film picks up decades after the events of The Shining, as troubled writer Jack Torrance's grown son Dan (Ewan McGregor) protects a young girl with the Shining, and finds himself inextricably pulled to a confrontation at the Overlook Hotel.     SPECIAL EPISODE: They're used to running wild, but even the Irwins have been doing the right thing and social distancing over the last few months. Their new special, Crikey! It’s the Irwins: Life in Lockdown, shows how the family has been caring for the animals at the Australia Zoo in recent months. 10:00 PM ET on Animal Planet

    MARATHON: HBO runs a marathon of last year's hit series Watchmen, which follows Tulsa police officer Angela Abar (Regina King) in an alternate version of 2019 America. Watch the trailer. 11:00 AM ET on HBO

    SUNDAY JUNE 28

    SERIES PREMIERE: Based on the bestselling true crime book by the late Michelle McNamara, the six-part series I'll Be Gone In The Dark details McNamara's hunt for the Golden State Killer. Read our review. 10:00 PM ET on HBO

    AWARDS SHOW: Amanda Seales hosts the BET Awards, which are celebrating their 20th anniversary with a virtual cermony this year. In another first for the annual broadcast, this year's awards will be simulcast on CBS and across all of ViacomCBS' cable channels. 8:00 PM ET on BET, CBS, and others

    MIDSEASON PREMIERE: The return of Black Monday finds Mo (Don Cheadle) and Dawn (Regina Hall) butting heads, while Blair (Andrew Rannells) works on the biggest deal of his life, and Keith (Paul Scheer) reaches out to a friend.     NEW EPISODE: Giada De Laurentiis is back with the self-shot series reboot Giada at Home 2.0, which finds her cooking with her daughter Jade to show people how they can eat well under even the most unusual of circumstances. 12:30 PM ET on Food Network

    SEASON FINALE: The season finale of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels finds the Vega family celebrating the Day of the Dead, while Townsend (Michael Gladi) sees his political clout growing. 10:00 PM ET on Showtime
