America's Got Talent Goes Live — Without Injured Simon Cowell

Tonight was supposed to a return to relative normalcy for America's Got Talent, with the series finally commencing with this season's live broadcasts. Instead, the show that's already weathered a COVID scare, production delays and a complete change of venue faces yet another unexpected turn of events, with Simon Cowell sitting out tonight and tomorrow night's shows as he recuperates from emergency back surgery. Also today: Hard Knocks returns for what promises to be an unusual season of its own, Will Smith hops aboard Shark Week, and Greenleaf airs its series finale. NEW EPISODE: Producers told us recently that they'd developed contingency plans for their contingency plans, which should come in handy tonight as America's Got Talent goes without Simon Cowell for this season's first live show. Kelly Clarkson is set to step-in as guest judge. 8:00 PM ET on NBC
